Here are some journal prompts to help you when you’re finding it hard to get started. They are focused around you and your perspective on things. I’ve added a few extra prompts at the bottom on different subjects.
Journal prompts – all about you
- What kind of day did you have, and why was it special?
- What’s your favourite colour, city, snack, book, tv programme, or movie, and why?
- What do you like to do for fun? How does it make you feel?
- Where are you happiest? Describe that place.
- What’s something you love to do? Why do you love it?
- Where do you come from? Is this important to you?
- What would you change about yourself or your situation? Can you change it at all?
- What is your relationship like with other members of your family?
- Are your siblings and you alike? If not why? If you don’t have siblings, then you’re friends.
- What are your views on free speech?
- What do you worry about at night? Are they realistic? Is there anything you can do about them?
- What do you believe to be true? If so, what is it? If not, what is your method for making important decisions?
- In what areas in the world are you optimistic, and in what areas are you pessimistic?
- What are your most important objects?
- Who is someone you miss?
- What is something you admire in a friend? Describe it and your feelings towards these.
- What book has influenced you, and how? (perhaps it was a song or movie?)
- What is one thing that people misunderstand about you?
- What’s something you disagree with about the school you went to?
- What’s your favourite season. Describe it in detail.
Journal prompts – other areas of your life.
- Describe your dream: job, man/woman, holiday.
- How do you envision your life when you’re older?
- Who are the dream guests for a dinner party? What is the one thing you’d like to know about each of them?
- What would your superpower be? How would you use it?
- If you won the lottery, what would you spend the money on?
- What country would you like to visit? How do you imagine your time there?
- Who is your favourite celebrity crush and why?
- What car would you like to drive? (money no object.)

I heard that forming our dreams (either in our heads or out loud) produces serotonin and therefore relaxes us. Another reason to follow your second set of prompts!
Interesting, I never knew that! Thanks for sharing.
