Never underestimate the power of the ripple effect.
Sharing your wins on social media can seem like a bit of a brag, but you never know who might need to hear your message.
Telling your followers how you overcame something, or what you achieved, might just be the inspiration they need.
The ripple effect is powerful. It trickles through the platforms reaching places far and wide. It’s never been easier to share your stories of doing something that has had a positive effect on you and it shouldn’t be shied away from.
Now I’m not talking about the blatant brag post which radiates smugness and, look at me aren’t I clever! (remember the ‘loads of money’ character Harry Enfield created back in the ’90s?) as these don’t inspire, they just make you look like a twat. But a genuine post that shares a feeling of triumph over adversity could reach someone who is feeling despondent and then sees a way out of that by using your story for motivation.
I’ve been sharing my fitness journey over the past year and I’ve received some lovely messages telling me how my post on X or post on Y has inspired them to do the same. (Mainly running!) This has a two-fold effect, not only has my story helped someone, but I’ve had a positive lift too and that is something which is motivating in itself.
So, don’t be shy about sharing your struggles and wins. Be vulnerable, don’t be afraid of judgement (it’s inevitable) but rather how your story could help your readers take action.
And just think, if a post on social media can influence then think what a whole book could do?!
